Hey, we finally have a gig on a Friday! We’re playing with the superlative Comrade Stanchev at the apparently fashionable Antje Oeklesund in sunny Friedrichshain. 10pm sharp.

This might be our last gig for a while so if you have not seen us play yet, now is as good a time as any, possibly the best time! In fact, if I were you I would definitely come!*

Parachute Pony Hoffest, Saturday 13th August

Smack in the middle of ~~summer holidays~~ hugely important business trips, we’ve been invited to play at the Parachute Pony open day, where you can come and mooch around the studio and enjoy a beer, and/or sausage! This is where we’ve been recording our demo, due any day now, and it’s one of our favourite places. Max, Sven, Heiko and Markus will be on hand to give you a tour, and if you happen to be in a band you should definitely come and meet them – consummate professionals who just happen to run one of the best value studios in Berlin.

Yet another Fou Management exclusive mega-event: FOU NIGHT LONG, an evening literally packed full of excitement, great music, and, well, us – yes, Jude the Obscure is playing at Kreuzberg’s Privat Club on Thursday, once more supporting the ineffable Myriad Creatures, with super special guest Alex Mola. Doors open at 8, we’ll be playing at around 9. Entry is a meagre €5 which is literally nothing.

Gig time! We’re playing at Bar Tausend tonight, next to Friedrichstr. S-Bahn station, with Alex Mola and Myriad Creatures. Show starts at 10 and we’ll be on around 11 – it’s 10 euros on the door but if you imagine that you are phenomenally wealthy you won’t even notice.

Between the longest day and the shortest night we played on the street for the first time as a band. It was really great to see all the people passing by and either staying for a song or not even noticing us. People from all over the world, all ages. Those who were in Berlin-Neukölln at least once know what I mean.

We started with some string duo songs, waiting for Nikola to come. At last he arrived with the taxi, made his way through the 10 people crowd, put the cajon on the ground, sat on it and we were complete. Although not used to play so quiet i think we sounded really emotional and tight. There was a pub next to us and sometimes the songs of the companies there were louder than ours, which only encouraged us to play more intense and loud. Once again my personal favourite was New Food, which we played in a new version again…. Maybe this will establish itself as “the” New Food. Nobody knows.

I think at the end of our 8 songs mini gig i saw about 30 people applauding us under the rain. It was amazing. We’ll surely do it more often. (but not between the shortest day and longest night I suppose)

The Herr Mimi’s parents were dabei tonight to watch our band practice. The Sestrok as well. It’s the second time we had three guests on an 8th floor practice. The start felt a bit uneasy also because Mimi’s father used to be in a band and the expectations were naturally high. We played Chloroform first, which I’d thought would make a great opening, but I didn’t think this was the case tonight.

As we played on we made a lovely rendition of the New Food (I’d say the loveliest so far), which I think happened much because I played impulsive and dynamic drums line, which glued the complicated arrangement of the song well together and instead of being just a set of different parts, the song felt like a flow.

I heard Oliver’s guitar line differently tonight and that inspired me for those drums, which I now forgot. I’m happy that we couldn’t replay the song anywhere as good later, because I love songs, which would fail to sound nice unless the band is alert.

Make us Proud video (2010)
This is our first video and it’s by far the best thing we’ve ever done, thanks to the amazing director Martin Iliev who shot the whole thing in one day with Kalojan Nedelchev. The track is a home-made recording which doesn’t really do the video justice, but it gives us something to aim for next time.

Nikola and I have been working on our website as we’re moving from reverbnation, which is expensive and hard to customize, to our own secret servers, buried deep underground in the Balkans and cooled by the very waters of the Black Sea. It is a work in progress, which is technical jargon meaning ‘probably not working at the moment’. This is actually just a test to see if our technical masterpiece is working, so if you have started reading in the hope of some form of interesting news, I fear you will be gravely disappointed. However, once it is all working and looking totally sweet, there will be regular updates of a most illuminating nature, so, you know, hopefully that will soften the blow.

I played acoustic guitar for the first time with someone else. Oly did his electric. We played long sessions and took terms to lead or follow the other. I liked it and felt inspired. I came up with beautiful melodies on the acoustic guitar and I wish we take them further. Oly played 7/8 for the first time with someone else and he got it no time. He made brilliant gradual transitions from 7/8 to 4/4 and back!

Then I hosted a drums session in the other half of the room, where Olly played the cajon and I played my drums. It took me some time to decide how to support him best (as he’s a solo percussionist) and then I played a cool flam rhythm with, with lots of space for him to percuss.
